The film was shot on the set of Hogan’s Heroes, the show that, along with the World At War and Combat, taught me a lot about Nazi Germany. Hogan’s Heroes had finished filming and the producers were looking to destroy the set. The brains behind Ilsa approached them about using the set and promised that, in the finale, it would be burnt to the ground. Hey presto, they got permission. Michael Biehn would later steal this idea for the climax of Bad Boys 2, but it would be less effective.
